Transforming Bunkers into Multifunctional Community Hubs

The goal of the project is to create multifunctional digital centers that combine the functions of safe shelters in emergency situations and innovative library hubs. These spaces are designed both for protection and for educational and cultural development. To transform existing Swiss bunkers into safe, accessible, and versatile community spaces, enhancing youth engagement in culture, education, and recreational activities, while promoting digital literacy and political education.

Bomb Shelter Functionality

The centers will be equipped as fully functional shelters, capable of providing safety during emergencies such as natural disasters or armed conflicts.

The shelters will have autonomous life support systems (ventilation, energy generators, water, and food supplies), as well as communication tools.

Digital infrastructure will provide constant internet access and communication with the outside world, even in emergency conditions.

Biblio-Hubs and Educational Centers

These centers will function as digital libraries during regular times, providing access to vast digital resources, books, articles, learning programs, and multimedia content.

Organization of educational events, workshops, seminars, and expert lectures to enhance the knowledge and skills of visitors.

Platforms for self-paced online learning with access to international educational resources and courses.

Digital Zones and Co-Working Spaces

The hubs will include workspaces where people can use computers, high-speed internet, and various programs and services to complete their projects.

Spaces for remote work, innovation activities, and startups, supporting entrepreneurship and research initiatives.

Integration of VR/AR Technologies

Use of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies for educational and entertainment purposes. For example, visitors can virtually tour museums, attend lectures at top universities worldwide, or participate in scientific experiments.

Development programs using VR, including simulations for safety training, medical assistance, and other essential skills.

Crisis Support Centers

In addition to educational and cultural activities, the hubs will have departments for psychological and social support during crises.

Consultations with psychologists, lawyers, and social workers will be available both online and offline.

Digital Archives and Cultural Heritage

The centers will also serve as repositories and places for preserving digital versions of cultural and historical heritage, archives, and unique library collections.

Creation of virtual exhibitions and access to rare collections in digital format, preserving them for future generations.

A dedicated area offering courses, documentaries, and workshops on Swiss politics, global affairs, and civic responsibility, with guest lectures from local leaders and interactive sessions using simulation games to explore real-world political scenarios.

Game and Culture Rooms

Engaging spaces with dedicated chess tables, board games for strategic thinking, art and music corners for creative expression, and cultural events like open-mic nights, poetry readings, and cultural exchange days celebrating Switzerland’s diversity.

Youth Collaboration and Meeting Hub

A dynamic space with conference rooms and collaborative areas equipped with audiovisual tools for group projects, brainstorming, and creative meet-ups, along with an Innovation and Ideas Lab where young people can share ideas, start projects, and receive mentorship in social or entrepreneurial ventures.

Renovation and Technology Setup

Bunkers are reinforced and renovated to be safe, climate-controlled, and comfortable. High-speed Wi-Fi, digital screens, holographic displays, VR equipment, projectors, computers, and tablets are installed to create accessible, tech-enabled spaces for learning and community engagement.

Programming, Staffing, and Community

Partner with local libraries, educational institutions, and cultural organizations to offer curated content and programs. Collaborate with Swiss government agencies, non-profits, and tech companies for funding, resources, and learning materials, and build relationships with schools and youth organizations
